Architecture of the futureThe prize was awarded at the opening of this year’s overview exhibition of projects of the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Ljubljana (FA UL) on Thursday Beautiful crazy worldwhich brings to the fore the issue of urgently needed and radical changes in architecture and urbanism in the future.
This year’s award-winning project with diverse architectural interventions offers solutions and possibilities for maintaining the coexistence of diverse programs in this area, as well as perspectives for its development in the future, the jury headed by Miranda Veljačić argued, as announced by FA UL. “Cities are intersections of flows, space and life. Public space is the basic quality and asset of the city. Public is measured in the accessibility and passability of the public ground floor, the variety of the program, the connection between the built and the green, and the health of the community as a whole. Jože Plečnik envisioned these key city-building components in his design of Ljubljana’s Križanka.” wrote the jury. In addition to President Veljačić, the commission members included sociologist Aidan Cerar, artist Ištvan Išt Huzjan, architect Iztok Hvala, curator and commissioner of the Slovenian pavilion Maja Vardjan, and architect Dinko Peračić.
About housing issues, the Union brewery and Plečnik todayAt the same time as the winning project, the jury also highlighted seminar Blenkušwho, in cooperation with the Ljubljana Faculty of Philosophy, developed interdisciplinary cooperation and discussed housing issues through the prism of community, individual and environment.
As an exemplary example of cooperation between the seminars (Žnidaršič, Zorec, Filipič/Hočevar), they drew attention to three more projects that dealt with the issue of development area of the Union Brewery and its replacement with a new program that suggests diverse possibilities for using public space with an emphasis on public benefit rather than gentrification.

The project investigates the relevance of the works of the architect Jože Plečnik from the critical position of today’s moment and connects the excess in architecture with the theme of public space and architecture for all.
