ASL Airlines Belgium, a Belgian-based cargo and passenger charter airline, has expressed interest in establishing a connection between Europe and El Salvador, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs assured that the company has signed a memorandum of cooperation with the airline to facilitate the possibility of starting operations in both the cargo and transportation sectors in El Salvador.

The entry of new competitors into the El Salvadoran market will increase not only commercial relations but also tourist flows to El Salvador, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on social networks.

The company’s commercial director, Todd Hildreth, assured the company that it had been assessing the situation in El Salvador for months, suggesting it would be the “perfect place” to establish ties to Latin America.

The airline serves up to 5 million passengers and transports over 700,000 tons of cargo annually.

The Ministry also set up meetings with the German, French and Spanish Chambers of Commerce in El Salvador, as well as with the European and Central American Chambers of Commerce (EURACEN).

There are 14 airlines operating in El Salvador, connecting with destinations in countries such as the United States, Canada, Central America, the Dominican Republic and Colombia.

According to the Autonomous Administration and Ports Commission (CEPA), from 1 January to 14 May 2023, El Salvador International Airport will have 13,974 commercial passenger flights and about 1.4 million immigration, transit and transhipment registrations. go up to people .
