The Ministry of Economy (MINEC) assured that over 42,000 jobs were created last year, resulting in low levels of crime.
Economy Minister Maria Luisa Hayem said: “We are seeing growth, especially in the tourism sector, call centres, technology and construction sectors.”
The official asserted that the nine sectors that make up the services sector were reporting increased labor volumes.
However, from February 2022 to the same month in 2023, the number of contributing workers (those who actually paid their wages) increased from 916,938 to 943,219, according to data from the Institute of Social Security of El Salvador (ISSS). , which represents an increase of 26,281 (2%).
Meanwhile, the number of people registered in the payroll increased from 923,637 to 966,113, representing an increase of 42,476 (4.5%).
Hayem asserted that the call center industry has reportedly had “growth barriers” in the past, and that talent development has overcome these barriers.
As for investment, he asserted that the light industry sector and call centers in the automotive sector are now on the rise.
He suggested that sectors such as textiles and food were in the process of expanding operations in El Salvador.
