Patricia Figueroa, executive director of the Chamber of Textile and Garment Industry of El Salvador (Kamtex), asserted that 61% of industrial companies in the union have some kind of renewable energy investment project.
“El Salvador’s industry is no stranger to applying sustainability strategies in the production process,” Figueroa repeated.
The corporate sector has been promoting the use of renewable energy in cooperation with the national government. According to the National Energy Council (CNE), geothermal, hydropower, biomass, solar and wind energy will account for 75.9% of cumulative power generation in 2022.
In addition to this, 70% of companies participating in Kamtex have reduced their water, energy and waste use in the last year, and according to Mauricio Rodriguez, the union’s technology manager, companies are improving. It is said that it has an index that reflects of countermeasures.
To promote sustainability, Kamtex has held its fourth virtual forum using this approach.
