In the Slovenian Cinematheque, tonight’s evening was dedicated to Jan Cvitkovič’s short films. The retrospective will offer nine of his films, including the latest Do you see me?, which had its world premiere last year at the Oldenburg festival in Germany.
The evening will be rounded off by Cvitkovič’s feature film Bread and milkwinner of the Lion of the Future at the 2001 Venice Film Festival.
The program brings an integral opus of multiple award-winning short films that Cvitkovič made between 2003 and 2022: A heart is a piece of meat, He knowsm, This is the earth, my brother, A hundred dogs, I was a child (Venezia 70: Future Reloaded – segment), Love on the roof of the world, Fishing and Versopolis.
His latest short film will also be shown Do you see me?, which recently received an honorable mention at a festival in Mexico. It had its Slovenian premiere at the last Slovenian Film Festival in Portorož. The film, produced by the production company Solsticij, is a story about love, guilt and violence, and Irena Kovačević, Mala Cvitkovič, Miha Košec, Medea Novak, Primož Pirnat and Marjuta Slamič appeared in it.
The evening will take place in the presence of the author. It will be rounded off by his feature film Bread and milk, a bittersweet story about people longing for love, but at the same time rejecting it. The film, which was inspired by a scene from a bar in Tolmin, where Cvitkovič grew up, won him the Future Golden Lion for Best Debut at the Venice International Film Festival in 2001. It starred Peter Musevski and Sonja Savić.
As a screenwriter, actor and director, Cvitkovič has received dozens of Slovenian and international awards, which places his works at the top of Slovenian film art. Among them is the award from the Prešeren Fund for Bread and milk.
