Everything Everywhere at Once continues to reap success: the biggest winner in the history of the SAG Awards

The SAG Awards are considered one of the more reliable predictors of Oscar winners

At the Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG), the movie Everything at Once was celebrated. Directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, the film became the biggest winner in the history of these awards, sweeping the competition in almost every category.

Sci-fi black comedy Everything everywhere at once (Everything Everywhere All at Once) received four individual acting nominations and an ensemble nomination and received the following awards: Michelle Yeoh as best actress in a leading role, Ke Huy Quan as Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Jamie Lee Curtis as the best actress in a supporting role, and the entire cast also received the award, he writes Associated Press (AP).

The winning film thus only further strengthened its status as a favorite before this year’s Oscars. In addition to the actors’ guild, the directors’ guild and the producers’ guild also gave him central laurels. Only one movie so far (Apollo 13), which celebrated at the award ceremonies of these three guilds, did not win the award for best picture at the Oscars.

All of a sudden, it shared the number of SAG Award nominations with the Irish black comedy Souls of the island (The Banshees of Inisherin), but was left empty-handed. (Otherwise, in the history of awarding these awards, only feature films managed to get five nominations for one film Shakespeare in love, Chicago and Doubt.) The film tells the story of a Chinese-American family, with the owner of the laundromat in the foreground. He faces a tax investigation and family problems as he finds himself in a multidimensional battle to save the universe from a powerful adversary.

Michelle Yeoh, who became the first Asian to win Best Actress in a Leading Role, said on receiving the award: “It’s not just for me. It’s for every little girl who looks like me.Her victory surprised some, as she was considered the favorite Cate Blanchett with a role in the film Tár.

Former child star Ke Huy Quan, who has since retired from acting, also became the first Asian to win the Actors Guild Award for Best Supporting Actor. “When I left acting, it was because there were so few opportunities.” He added that with more Asian names celebrating at the awards, “the landscape looks so different now.

Quan’s words also referred to the fact that the 94-year-old is also in the cast of Everything Everywhere at Once James Hong. In his acceptance speech, he emphasized that this is a great honor for Asian actors and recalled that once in Hollywood, Asians were portrayed by white actors, because they themselves were not good enough and profitable. “But look at us now” he added and received a standing ovation.

In the race for the best player, as many as three nominees were considered favorites, namely Austin Butler (Elvis), Brendan Fraser (Whale) and Colin Farrell (Souls of the Island). In the end, Fraser celebrated with the character of an overweight man, which marks his return to film in a leading role. “Trust me, if you just stand there and put one foot in front of the other, you’ll get where you need to go,” he said upon receiving the award.

The award for the best stunt team went to the stuntmen of the film Top Gun: Maverick.

More TV categories…As part of the awards in the field of television, there is a series White Lotus (The White Lotus) celebrated in the category of best cast, Jennifer Coolige but she won the award for the best actress in a drama series. Jason Bateman became the best actor in a drama series with his role in the series Ozark. The award for the best cast in a comedy TV series went to the actors of the series Abbott Elementary. She became the best actress in a comedy series Jean Smart (Hacks), and the best actor in a comedy series Jeremy Allen White (The Bear). He celebrated as the best actor in a TV movie or miniseries Sam Elliott (miniseries 1883), as the best actress Jessica Chastain (miniseries George & Tammy).

The SAG Awards, which this year was broadcast from Los Angeles on Netflix’s YouTube channel, are often one of the more reliable predictors of Oscar winners. Among other things, actors make up the largest percentage of the film academy, so their choice also has the greatest impact. There is a movie last year Coda celebrated at the SAG Awards and then also won the Academy Award for Best Picture. Also Ariana DeBose, Will Smith, Jessica Chastain and after winning the awards of the actors’ guild, they also celebrated at the Oscars.
