Forbes magazine ranked the Slovenian climber Janja Garnbret among the 30 most influential individuals in the field of sports in Europe who are under the age of thirty. She is joined on the list by Nikola Jokić, Erling Haaland, Carlos Alcaraz and George Russel.
With her inclusion on the list of the most influential, the 23-year-old Slovenian is once again in the company of individuals who, according to the renowned magazine, are shaping the future, thereby successfully expanding the global recognition of sport climbing. The Forbes commission is on the list of the 30 most influential young people (30 under 30) ranked 12 athletes, nine entrepreneurs, four game developers, three sports business experts and two e-athletes in the field of sports and games. “Being included on such a list in the company of such individuals is of course a great honor and at the same time a responsibility. Athletes have the power to connect, so we must direct this privilege to topics that are more than just sport and with our contribution ensure the development of the environment and society, which of course I also expect from myself,” says Janja Garnbret.
Best female sport climber ever?
Undoubtedly, thanks to the young Slovenian woman, sport climbing is becoming an increasingly recognized sport on a global level, and Janja Garnbret can be considered the most important ambassador of this sport, because despite her youth – she turned 24 a few days ago – we are already talking about her as the best sport climber of all time. In 2020, as a twenty-year-old, Forbes magazine nominated her to the list of the 30 most influential young people in Europe, and a year later her name was also on the list TIME100 Next 2021, an expanded version of Time magazine’s list of the most influential people in the world.
The new season in the Sport Climbing World Cup starts in April, and the Slovenian Olympic champion hopes that, despite her big toe injury, she will be able to compete in the opening games. The highlight of the season will certainly be the World Championship in Switzerland, which will also be the first opportunity to qualify for the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.
