The Consortium is already showing the jubilee, 30th sales exhibition of children’s books Bologna after Bologna, which offers an overview of the current most current high-quality children’s literature presented at the recent fair in Bologna.
The organizers are already looking ahead to the year 2024, when Slovenia will be the guest of honor at the Bologna Book Fair.
The director of the Public Book Agency of the Republic of Slovenia (JAK) spoke about the preparations for hosting Slovenia at this important international children’s book fair. Katja Stergar. As she said, the current rebalancing of the budget for culture foresees dedicated funds for the project, which means that they will not have to obtain funds from other sources, as was the usual practice.
Slovenian preparations are in full swingShe emphasized that the title of guest of honor will ensure “greater global resonance” for all Slovenian book creators, together with the entire book and publishing chain, and shed light on their work. She reminded that several support projects are already underway, a public debate has been prepared on this topic, a catalog has been published, several Slovenian books have been translated and also sold abroad, she listed and added that it is still too early to talk about the program itself , but they will focus on the importance of reading.

This year’s children’s book day message, prepared by the Greek section of IBBY and written by a Greek author, was also dedicated to reading. Vagelis Iliopoulos and it was read today by the president of the Slovenian section of IBBY Tina Bilbao. Head of Pionirska Darja Lavrenčič Vrabec however, she presented a reading-encouraging campaign in which she is together with a librarian and a writer Ido Mlakar Črnič among other things, collected 130 suggestions for all readers, from the youngest to the oldest.
The exhibition, which will be open until Saturday, May 27, is prepared every year by the children’s department of the Konzorcij bookstore, Pionirska – the center for youth literature and librarianship, which operates within the Ljubljana City Library, and the Slovenian section of IBBY.
Today’s opening ceremony was traditionally closed by a connoisseur of children’s literature Tilka Jamnikwhich presented the award-winning picture books of this year’s fair in Bologna, which stand out in terms of content and art.

At the opening of the jubilee exhibition, they listed some novelties. This time the exhibition is in two locations: in the Konzorcij na Slovenska bookstore and in the Oxford Center, which is the only specialized bookstore for foreign language literature and language manuals in Slovenia. This year, in addition to award-winning international book titles, works by Slovenian authors of children’s books in translations are also presented.
Illustrations are also on display Ana Zavadlav from the book Italian Fairy Tales by Italo Calvino. Ana Zavadlav was one of 30 creators selected for the exhibition of illustrations of Calvin’s works as part of this year’s Bologna fair.
