Movie star Cuba Gooding Jr. (Boyz n the Hood, Jerry Maguire, Men of Honor, Gifted Hands) settled out of court with the woman who accused him of raping her in a New York hotel room in 2013.
The settlement came just before jury selection. The BBC reports that in the event of a civil trial, the plaintiff would present evidence that would irrefutably incriminate the actor. 55-year-old Oscar winner (supporting role in the film Jerry Maguire) categorically denies guilt and claims that the sexual relationship with the plaintiff was consensual. Otherwise, he has been accused of groping several times in the past, but last year he pleaded guilty to kissing a woman without permission.

In a recent settlement, the anonymous plaintiff sought more than $5.5 million in damages from the actor. In 2013, the star reportedly invited her to a restaurant for dinner, and later for drinks at the Mercer Hotel. In the hotel room, according to the victim, Gooding began to undress when she wanted to leave the actor’s room, but he prevented her from doing so. She said she did “he didn’t stop touching her, violently undressed her and raped her.”
Neither the actor’s lawyers nor the plaintiff’s appeared at the jury selection a few days ago, as a settlement was reached. On the court’s agenda, under the notice that the trial was adjourned, it was written: “The parties independently resolved the matter.”
