Mexican drug cartels threaten Peso Pluma, so he canceled several concerts

Mexican musician Peso Pluma has canceled all of his shows after receiving death threats from alleged Mexican cartel members. The singer made enemies mainly by glorifying the founder of the Sinaloa drug cartel, El Chapo.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Pluma glorifies the world of drug trafficking by singing about guns, smuggling cocaine and killing enemies. Several of the 24-year-old’s songs praise the founder of the Sinaloa drug cartel, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzmanespecially his bestseller Siempre Pendientes (Always ready). The Los Angeles Times reports that a rival drug gang has since threatened Pluma to cancel the Tijuana show. On Tuesday, four large banners appeared simultaneously in different parts of the city warning the rapper to cancel the performance.

Handwritten banners criticize Pluma for his “disrespectful and loose language” and are warning that if he doesn’t cancel the concert, it will be his last, reports the LA Times. The banners were signed with the acronym CJNG, the Spanish initials of the cartel Jalisco New Generation. Police are now investigating the threats. They detained one person.

The organizers are via Fiserv Forum halls in Wisconsin, where Pluma had scheduled one of the performances, announced on Tuesday: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Pesa Plume concert scheduled for September 14 has been postponed. All tickets already purchased will also be valid for the new performance date.”
