The 20th congress of Slovenian publishers in Bled

Bled was the venue of the 20th congress of Slovenian publishers. They talked about the challenges of artificial intelligence and the digitization of publishing work processes, they focused on the material and design side of books and chose “the best personality of publishing”.

They also touched on the question of what industry is waiting after hosting Slovenia as guests of honor at the fair in Frankfurt.

The first set was dedicated to artificial intelligence challenges. The second set was aimed at finding concrete and effective steps towards the digitization of publishing work processes. Mitja Ličen z Založba Goga presented the operation and practical use of software solutions, Alex Murphy from the company Stitson Publishing Solutions can be software solutions for publishing houses of various profiles and sizes.

In the afternoon, they focused on the material and design aspects of books. Designer Sanja Janša it is in gave some answers to questions about book design in her lecture. In the conversation with Bojana Leskovar, the topic of books as an important building block of private and public living space was deepened both through the perspective of architects and experts and researchers of reading habits. Participants were Katjuša Kranjc (Studio Raketa), Miha Kovač (Ljubljana Faculty of Arts), Tina Popovič (UNESCO City of Literature) and Matija Bevk (Bevk Perović Architects).

Barbara Pregelj, creative director of the publishing house MalincAt the congress, the personality of the publishing industry was awarded. She received it Barbara PregeljDoctor of Literary Sciences and associate professor at the University’s Faculty of Humanities in Novi Gorica, a researcher, translator and editor who stepped down in Slovenian publishing in 2012, “when she became the driving force and idea leader of the label Malinc“.

As it says in explaining the recognition, Barbara Pregelj in in his research-theoretical work he mainly deals with various aspects of the reception of Spanish literature in Slovenian literature, with translation questions, literary interpretation and youth literature. All this was also reflected in its publishing work and expanded into new areas of activity. Her contribution to the promotion of reading culture and literary awareness in it is invaluable to society.
