The Ministry of Health responded to proposals to improve conditions in orthodontics, where there are long waiting times. Orthodontics is another area that will be part of the broader health reform and other systemic changes, the ministry emphasized.
The ministry is trying to solve the challenges in orthodontics in the short term with the law on emergency measures for ensuring the stability of the healthcare system. This allows contractors to get paid for all medical services provided, regardless of the scope agreed with the Institute for health insurance of Slovenia (ZZZS).
“This, together with other measures, will in the foreseeable future lead to improved accessibility for the population and shorter waiting times,” the ministry stated. At the same time, they explained that a call for tenders is being prepared for concession, which also includes 8.70 of the team jaw and dental orthopedics.
Board representatives for dentistry The Medical Chamber of Slovenia and the Slovenian Orthodontic Association presented proposals at a press conference on February 15 for improving the situation in orthodontics.
Among other things, they propose the tendering of 40 new public orthodontic programs. From 2012 to 2023, he is a ministry for health according to the president of the Slovenian Orthodontic Association Sande Lah Kravanja tender only for 4.5 new additional orthodontic program, although many orthodontists would like to work within public dentistry.
According to the Ministry, the expansion of programs was even less – as they explained, it was for namely, the additional expansion of the 2.5 program that was announced, while all other programs that were announced went well for replacement of concessionaires’ retirements or for programs that health centers could not implement.
