The Ministry of Health has stopped the almost 40 million purchase of magnetic resonance devices due to alleged favoritism of one of the suppliers of medical equipment in the preparation of a public contract.
The case regarding the allegedly biased public procurement was handed over to the National Investigation Office and the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption, according to POP TV.
The public order for the purchase of 16 magnetic resonance devices worth 38 million euros for 13 medical institutions is being prepared by a group of radiologists who already prepared the technical specifications last year on behalf of the Office for Control, Quality and Investments in Healthcare.
Even before the announcement of the public contract, the office conducted an information inquiry among five potential suppliers. After reviewing the documentation, two of them reported to POP TV that they could not supply the desired devices due to the required technical characteristics. The other two, as the television summarized the ministry’s statements, are the companies GH Holding and Gorenje GTI, and they addressed separate letters of protest to the office with accusations that the submitted technical requirements correspond only to devices supplied by Siemens.
