Vice President of the Republic Félix Ulloa met this Friday with Alexander Lopez, representative of the UN Latin American Water Council Executive Director.

During the meeting, the Government of El Salvador reaffirmed its commitment to comply with the Water Convention and the various measures it implements to protect water resources.

The government indicated that its inclusion in the water treaty aims to “strengthen the governance of water resources and cross-border regional cooperation.”

Ulloa also described the work he has done under the new General Law on Water Resources and the creation of the El Salvador Water Authority.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Adriana Mira. Jorge Castaneda, president of the El Salvador Water Authority. Jorge Urbina, Executive Director of Plan Trifinio El Salvador and Mario Otero, Executive Director of the National Council for Sustainable Development.

The Water Convention is an intergovernmental legal framework of the United Nations with 47 Contracting Parties to prevent, manage and reduce adverse impacts on transboundary water quality and quantity, and to ensure equitable shared use of water. I’m looking for Ensuring sustainable management through equity and cooperation.
