The Legislative Assembly votes on legal reports on budget allocations to non-governmental organizations (NGOs). On Monday, the committee to review funds allocated to NGOs approved a report to be referred to the Council of the Legislative Assembly, so it can be scheduled in plenary.
The report concludes that Arena and FMLN leaders may have committed crimes by allocating funds to these organizations. “There are ample indications of the creation of a mechanism by the political leaders of the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front and the Nationalist Republican Alliance party, and previous parliamentary parties have called for such a mechanism to facilitate the allocation of public funds to the NGOs they have joined. We have created a mechanism that works,” points to research done by lawyer Mario Machado and others.
Sufficient evidence has been identified to consider the possible execution of punishable acts by NGOs. ” Conclusions of the report read by the legislative committee
It also states that there exists a “committee of likely punishable acts by NGOs receiving public funds approved by the Legislative Assembly”, which must be evaluated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
