Nuevas Ideas expressed support for a new agency, the Export and Investment Promotion Agency of El Salvador (Proesa), aimed at increasing economic investment in El Salvador.
The dissolution of the organization is part of the draft Law for the Establishment of the El Salvadorian Investment and Export Promotion Agency (Invest), which was launched for consideration by the legislative assembly’s economic committee on Thursday.
William Soriano, who worked at Proesa for three years, said, “I think it’s very necessary to build a modern system that addresses the current challenges El Salvador faces in terms of attracting investment.”
He added that it is the “face” of the country for investment arrivals. “Previously, the agency was used for purposes other than promoting the country as it should be. El Salvador has a great demand for this service,” Soriano said.
The commission remained open waiting to summon the Ministry of Economy to explain the bill’s purpose.
