ACH Volley remains undefeated

The 14th round of the volleyball championship did not offer a major derby, but it was exciting in Ravne, where in the match between Fužinar and Merkur Maribor, 250 spectators saw the decision after five sets (2:3).

The guests led 2:0 after they had difficulty winning the marathon first set (at 31) and the second set (at 17) much easier. The hosts got back into the game thanks to Miha Cafuta, a former Maribor player who scored seven points with blocks in the game and tied the score at 2:2. In the “tie break” they ran out of strength, Maribor reliably won the set at 6.

Canadian Connor McDonell showed himself with 30 points, Žiga Donik added 27, and Rok Bračko 20, while registering as many as eight aces. His serves also ensured that in the decisive set Merkur gained a reliable lead (1:8) from the beginning, in this part the 19-year-old Bračko scored three of them.

Even in Kranje, the fifth set was decisive, in which the Triglavs crushed the resistance of Črnuč. In the decisive set, after a well-placed block by Uroš Tučna, Triglav took a 7:3 lead, and kept the advantage until the end. With 21 points, he was the most efficient player in the home field Đorđe Jovović, he scored six points with a block, which was a powerful weapon of the Kranjians throughout the match.

It was similar in Kamnik, where Calcit Volley beat Salonit Anhova 3:0, with the ratio of successful blocks being 12:4. Nik Mujanovic scored 15 points on (60 percent shooting). “I have to praise the whole team, from the first to the last. The reception worked well, we were also effective in the attack, we have been in the block all season anyway, and we also did something on the service when it was most needed,” commented Calcit Volley’s coach Matija Pleško.

The players of the leading ACH Volley had no problems either, they beat Panvita Pomgrad 3:0, with the most points being contributed by the experienced Nikola Gjorgiev (18) and AlenŠket (14). “I am pleased with the performance of the boys today, who after a bit of a sleepy start quickly took the initiative and had things under control. Now we have to gather new strength, because in the next week we have as many as three matches,” said the coach of the champions Radovan Gačič.

ACH Volley reliably did its job before two matches of the fourth tournament of the Central European League in Osijek. Their first opponent will be the Slovakian team Komarno on Wednesday, and the home team Mursa a day later. Photo: Klemen Brumec
