The giant slalom is the first test in technical disciplines after the World Championship in Meribel.
Mikaela Shiffrin skied the number seven in her own style. She was the fastest in three of the four sectors, only in the third was Canadian Valerie Grenier slightly better. She overtook Federico Brignone, the leader until then, by 1.04 seconds. Then, however, the two American skiers came closer to less than a second behind.
