The second race of the giant slalom in Are: Shiffrin chases Stenmark

Live broadcast on TV SLO 2 and MMC

Are is the last stop for alpine skiers before the final part of the World Cup in Soldeu. In Sweden, the ninth giant slalom of the season is scheduled. Mikaela Shiffrin set the best time on the first track.

Mikaela Shiffrin skied the number seven in her own style. She was the fastest in three of the four sectors, only in the third was Canadian Valerie Grenier slightly better. She overtook Federico Brignone, the leader until then, by 1.04 seconds. Then, however, the two American skiers came closer to less than a second behind. Grenier was 58 hundredths behind, and Austria’s Franziska Gritsch was 93 behind.

Ana Bucik entered with the number ten, who, after encouraging times in the upper and middle part, lost a lot and was 1.88 seconds behind the American. When she arrived at the finish line, she took eighth place, and after the first run she was 14th. Neja Dvornik was 3.33 seconds behind, which made her too slow for the second run. She took 35th place.

In this discipline, Mikaela Shiffrin became the world champion, who already won the big crystal globe and the small slalom this winter, and in Are she has a good chance to secure the giant slalom as well. The American woman is also chasing the historic achievement of the legendary Swede Ingemar Stenmark, who is the most successful skier in history with 86 victories. The American has won 85 of them so far.
