In the 28th round of the First League, the Radomelj players lost to Maribor with a score of 1:1. In the last quarter of an hour, they played without the suspended Gabr Dobrovoljec, but they repelled all the purple attacks and won a big point in the fight for survival.
Kalcer was waiting for the violets on the wings of two consecutive victories. Most recently, he was better than Domžal, and before that he was better than Bravo, who was defeated by Maribor in the last round in Ljubljana. In the opening round of the season, the Radom residents surprised the current national champions with a score of 3:0 in the People’s Garden, who then filled the Radomel net in the next two matches. It was 5:0 in Domžale in September, and 7:0 in Maribor in December.
Sokler confirmed his excellent formThe hosts got off to a great start and took the lead in the 10th minute. Samsinda Ouro masterfully sent a deep ball behind the Maribor defense with the outside of his foot. Ester Sotler, who is in excellent form, ran away from Sven Šoštarić Karič. The forward of Kalcer reliably beat Ažbet Juga. Four minutes later, the purples had an excellent opportunity to equalize. Ivan Brnić passed from the left side, where Marko Tolić himself was in front of the goal, but he clumsily hit the ball from close range, which flew over the goal.
Iličić’s second goal after his return At the end of the first half, the guests created opportunities one after the other. In the 36th minute, Žan Vipotnik found himself alone on the right side, but Emil Vekić intervened well. A good minute later, Maribor’s attacks only bore fruit. Tolić played brilliantly. First he went past Darly N’Landu, when he arrived in the penalty area he dealt with Gabr Dobrovoljec, and then he passed to Josip Iličić, who sent the ball under the crossbar from ten meters. The main star of the First League scored for the second time after returning to his homeland.
Maribor had a few good chances until the end of the half. First, after Brnić’s shot, which hit the ball poorly, Vekić deflected it, but Vipotnik sent the rebounded ball straight at the home goalkeeper from close range. Vekić also intervened well after Brnić’s quick counterattack. He then sent a sharp cross in front of the goal in stoppage time, but the ball narrowly missed the target.
Radomljani closed shortly after the start of the second half. Mario Čuić then exchanged a double pass with N’Landu, who returned the ball to him with the heel, then with his brother Filip, who also passed with the heel. They played the visiting defense with this, but Mario shot poorly and the ball flew wide of the goal.
In the 76th minute, Kalcer was left with one player less. A volunteer knocked down Vipotnik just outside the penalty area. Božo Kondić initially showed the home defender a yellow card, but after watching the video, he overturned the decision and reached for the red. The free kick was taken by Iličić, who missed the goal.
The people of Celje and the people of Domžal are neighbors in the ranking and in a tense fight for a place in Europe. The hosts of this match are third with 44 points, after having to concede superiority to the leading Olympia in the last round, while Domžale are fourth with two points less.
