The Alpine Skiing World Cup season is over. The last race, the slalom in Soldeu, was won by the Swiss Ramon Zenhäusern, and Lucas Braathen won the small crystal globe with the second place (he was only six hundredths behind).
The Swiss Zenhäusern, for whom the salted tracks suit him, already had the best starting point before the final, he was 26 hundredths ahead of Lucas Brathen. On the second track (it was impossible to ski an ideal line in the warm weather), he was 17 hundredths of a second behind Braathn in the last split, and in the last part it was just his sixth career World Cup win.
Only a victory would “save” Kristoffersen todayHenrik Kristoffersen, who, if Braathen had made a bigger mistake, would have won the slalom globe for the fourth time. The 22-year-old Braathen, who was very emotional at the finish line, collected 545 points, Kristoffersen 494. After the first run, Kristoffersen trailed Braathen by more than half a second, and in the end, Kristoffersen was 63 hundredths short.
A memory of many years of hard work“Unbelievable, I am speechless. The road to the globe was long and arduous. This is the reward for my efforts when I started training with my father at the age of nine. I am overjoyed that now that nine-year-old Luca can look forward to this globe,” said Braathen, who, after Kjetil Andrej Aamodt (2000) and Kristoffersen (2016, 2020, 2022), is the third Norwegian to win the slalom globe. It was won by Slovenians Rok Petrović and Bojan Križaj in the 1980s.
Yule quickly eliminated from the gameBefore the tenth slalom of the season, the Swiss Daniel Yule also had some chances for the small globe, but already in the morning he was behind by more than two seconds. He resigned in the final and did not even save third place in the overall slalom – his compatriot Ramon Zenhäusern took the bronze. Fabio Gstrein, who did a great job on the first grid (3rd result), also retired in the final.
