Alianza played Santa Tecla FC at Cuscatlan Stadium on day 11 of Clausura 2023 in a goalless draw.
After losing 4-0 to the Philadelphia Union in the Concacafe Champions League, the Capital team needed a win to get back on track. Tecleños, meanwhile, entered the match after a scoreless draw with Firpo in round 10.
With the turf of the “Colossus of Montserrat” losing its luster in its prime, the action of the match began with Ivan Burton, the referee of the World Cup, serving as the main judge.
The team, led by Eduardo Lara, started the game under high pressure in the lower area of Santa Tecla. However, his click in the box was able to counter it with midfielder Gilbert at his Bears’ feet.
In the 17th minute, Luis Canales and Henry Romero exchanged words before a corner kick and then punched each other before being sent off the game. Burton did not hesitate and exiled them both. Romero left the field after a strong reprimand from his coach.
After the expulsion, the rest of the first division slowed down and were split in midfield. In the final definition, there was an inaccurate arrival by Alianza’s offensive division by Hugo Palacios and Ezequiel Rivas.
The second game changed its dynamics. Both teams started out with wing intensity, making the game more interesting.
In the 57th minute, Burton, the main player in the match, twisted his ankle and the match was suspended for several minutes.
Santa Tecla started to show up in Mario González’s goal and had a clear chance to score a goal that Colombian forward Victor Landazuli failed to achieve.
The rest of the game continued in the same vein. Both teams produced attacking arrivals but were unable to bring down the goalkeeper. Santa Tecla strategist Ernesto Corti, along with his coaching staff, were warned of the protest.
The match ended in a 0-0 draw. Santa Tecla earned his valuable visitor points, but Alianza remains unconvinced.
