The E3 Saxo Bank one-day classic is the general for the prestigious Tour of Flanders. Four Slovenians, Tajde Pogačar, Matej Mohorič, Matevž Govekar and Luka Mezgec, are racing at the test in the vicinity of Harelbeke.
Cake maker (UAE Emirates) has slightly changed the program of this year’s races by including in its schedule E3. In his prime, the two-time Tour winner never hid his desire to win the Tour of Flanders. Last season, on his debut, he finished fourth in the final sprint after recalculation, after coming to the finish together with eventual winner Mathieu out der Poelom (Alpecin–Deceuninck).
The Dutchman is among the main favorites to win today after his solo attack on Saturday saw Milan – Sanremo. Last year’s winner, a Belgian, is also among the featured riders Wout out Aert (Jumbo–Visma), and the other Mohorič also has a chance for a resounding result (Bahrain–Victorious). The rider from Podblica pri Kranj will have teammate Govekar by his side, while Mezgec (Jayco–AlUla) was looking for his opportunity in an otherwise depleted Australian line-up.
The best are expected at the finish line around 5:00 p.m. E3 is the general for the prestigious Race of Flanders, which will take place next Sunday. Cyclists will have to in the surrounding area Harelbeke in Belgium to overcome many cobbled slopes and sections, which will also be the turn of the 70 km longer test on April 2. It has been through the years E3 with climbs to fame Paterberg, Oude Kwaremont, Kanarieberg, Knokteberg, Taaienberg and the rest received nickname “little Flanders” and it will be true indicator form of the best before the second climax of the spring classics.
