Italian Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) is the winner of the first race of the new season of the World Motorcycle Championship in the motoGP class. In Portugal, Spaniard Maverick Vinales (Aprilia) was second, while Italian Marco Bezzecchi (Ducati VR46) was third.
The race ended badly for the local man Miguel Oliveira; the rider of the Aprilia RNF team was hit by a former world champion after three laps and knocked off his motorcycle Marc Marquez. The race thus ended prematurely even for the first Honda racer, and the Portuguese had to be taken to the hospital for examination.
Bagnaia started the defense of last season’s world title in the best possible way. In addition to the race, he also got his first sprint test on Saturday, a novelty in the MotoGP competition. In total, after the first race, he has all possible points.
The season will continue next week with the race in Argentina.
