Finally, the last week of the Giro is here. Challenging mountain trials and Saturday’s time trial will determine the final winner. Main favorites Primož Roglič and Geraint Thomas are still separated by two seconds, and the guest of Tour 202 is someone who knows Thomas very well.
Marko Džalo has been a physiotherapist and masseur of the Ineos Grenadiers team for many years, and has been working closely with the Welshman for a long time. Every year she is with him at the main preparations for the season. He says that the 36-year-old rides differently than Primož Roglič, who is in excellent shape from the beginning to the end of the season.
Thomas was still far behind the best in the spring, but Džalo says that he is like a diesel. It’s slow to warm up, but once it’s running, it’s great. Many times in his career he has been in the best form in the final week of three-week races.
Džalo also explains that the team did not plan to give up the pink jersey to the competitors on Saturday, but gave it up in order to save energy for the last week at the end of the stage.
Vala 202’s cycling reporter Igor Tominec is also a guest, who points out that it is not surprising that the fight for the overall victory has not flared up so far. This year, the Gira route is such that everyone cycling for the highest possible ranking in the overall total tried to keep their batteries full for the last week.
The host of Tour 202 is Luka Petrič, you are invited to listen.
