The best Slovenian table tennis player Darko Jorgić defeated the Portuguese Tiago Apolonia 4:1 (-9, 9, 8, 6, 9) in the 2nd round of the world championship in Durban in the individual competition. Frenchman Alexis Lebrun awaits him in the 3rd round.

In today’s “warm-up” for the singles match, together with the Czech Tomaš Polansky, he first qualified for the round of 16 in the men’s doubles, and he continued his winning streak in the singles competition as well. The Slovenian-Czech midfielder was better than the Italian combination of Mihai Bobocic/Niagol Stoyanov in the afternoon match, winning 3:0 (7, 9, 5) after just over 20 minutes.

Jorgić then brought another good friend from the international scene to his knees in a single match. His rival twelve years older took away the opening set from him, and then Zasavec dominated and overshadowed his rival in all elements of the game.

The holder of the silver medal from last year’s European Championship in Munich will face the Frenchman Lebrun in the next round, who first defeated the Ukrainian Levgen Priščep by 4:0, and in the second round he also eliminated the Senegalese Ibrahim Diaw by 4:2.

Farewell to the Tofant/Stražišar linkIn the 2nd round, the Slovenian women’s pair Ana Tofant-Katarina Stražar was unsuccessful, the Taiwanese combination Huang Yi-Hua/Chen Szu-Yu won 3:0 (7, 6, 5) after just 17 minutes. Tofant and Stražar beat Thais Orawan Paranang and Suthasini Sawettabut 3:2 in the first round.
