In preparation for the European championship, which will begin in Ljubljana in a good three weeks, the Slovenian basketball players won for the first time. After two big defeats last week against Hungary, they defeated the Croatians in Podčetrtek with 86:78.
Slovenia and Croatia will play another match on Wednesday at 18:00 in Mengš.
Until the start of the EP on June 15, the Slovenian women will then play three more matches. They will meet Poland on May 29 in Maribor, and Montenegro on June 8 and 9 in Stožice and Kranj.
Croatia is not among the 16 EP participants.
The Slovenian women won relatively sovereignly and routinely. At the beginning of the second half, they already led by 21 points (62:41), and in the playoffs they convincingly repelled the Croatian attack, which in the 36th minute came close to four points behind (76:72).
The mainstays of the game stood out according to the shooting performance. Teja Oblak scored 24 points (6 rebounds, 4 assists, index 32) while shooting 7:7 from the field and 8:8 from the free throw line at 100%, Zala Friškovec and Eva Lisec and they each added 15 points and 10 rebounds.
“Our goal in the preparations is not to win, because we are building the game day by day, training after training. We still have a lot of time until the European Championship and we want to be the best prepared when it is most important. Today we worked very well at times,” said Eva Lisec.
The Slovenian women will play in Group C at the European Championship together with Germany, Great Britain and France.
