At the elite division hockey WC in Riga and Tampere, the last two quarter-finalists played the last matches of the group stage. In Finland, Germany secured promotion after a 5-0 win over France, while Latvia is looking forward to it in front of their home crowd.
After Slovakia’s 4:1 victory over Norway, the Latvians needed at least a point against the Swiss to qualify for the top eight, and they won it. After the regular part of the match, it was 3:3, and in extra time, the hosts even inflicted their first defeat in the championship on Switzerland (3:4).
The quarterfinals will take place on Thursday, and the pairs are USA – Czech Republic, Switzerland – Germany, Canada – Finland and Sweden – Latvia.
