Darko Jorgić showed the best performance at the World Table Tennis Championship in Durban and eliminated Alexis Lebrun 4:0 (8, 7, 4, 10) in the 3rd round. By breaking through to the round of 16, he fulfilled his basic goal, but of course he wants more.
The Frenchman, the 18th player in the world, was completely helpless. In the third set, he already lost his temper and also threw the racket.
For that, he will have to beat someone better in the international ranking, his rival will be the fifth player in the world, the Chinese Liang Jinkun, who had some problems with the Englishman Paul Drinkhall, but in the end won 4:1. The Slovenian faced the Chinese at the last tournament of champions in Macau and defeated him 3:2.
Hrastničan, the 12th ranked player in the world, has never faced 19-year-old Alexis Lebrun in singles. But he knew that he could still be dangerous, so unlike the first two fights, he was motivated and collected from the very beginning. With excellent serves, he didn’t allow his rival any chance, not even any major series of points until the last moment.
He only had some problems at the very end of the fourth set, when the Frenchman saved four final balls. But this did not confuse the Slovene, he won the next two points and celebrated the victory with loud shouts.
“I knew he was strong, that I shouldn’t let him fall into his rhythm. With the game mode changes, I was a little aggressive and also a little passive, I managed to do that, so I’m very happy,” said Jorgić for the organizers, who were also interested in his involvement in the Slovenian police and his collection of sports shoes.
Jorgić is the only remaining Slovenian representative at the World Championship.
