The El Salvador Football Federation has agreed to conclude the Clausura 2023 competition along with the first division on the afternoon of Wednesday 24 May.
Through a statement between the football director at the national level and the organizers of the club championships, it was agreed to cancel the Clausura 2023 competition following the tragedy at the Cuscatlan stadium on the evening of 20 May. 12 fans have died in a rush at the general solar department.
After this suspension of the championship, it was decided that qualification for the next CONCACAF tournament would go to Club Deportivo FAS, champions of the 2022 Apertura Tournament. Jokoro FC finished runners-up in the tournament, while Club Deportivo Aguila became the team with the most points in the regular season between the 2022-2023 tournaments in Apertura and Clausura.
The statement then ended by saying that the measures, approved by both bodies, were due to the seriousness of the incident and the need for national football to ensure the safety of stadiums.
