Darko Jorgić is currently competing in the quarterfinals of the World Table Tennis Championship in Durban. His opponent is the fifth player in the world, China’s Liang Jinkun.
The best Slovenian table tennis player, 12th in the world ranking, has so far defeated all three rivals in South Africa who are lower than him in the international ranking.
Not even a Chinese is an insurmountable obstacle. The 24-year-old Hrastničan defeated him at the last international competition, the Tournament of Champions in Macau. There the result was 3:2. Jinkun is also known to Slovenian table tennis fans, as he won tournaments in Laško and Novi Mesto.
“It’s true that I was better than him in Macau, I beat him once before, but the WC will not be decided by which of us has been more successful in our duels so far. It will be decided by who will remain calmer, who will play the match better tactically. I think the chances of winning are equal, but to fulfill my wish and reach the quarter-finals, I will have to show my best table tennis in Durban.” said Jorgić, who already qualified for the quarterfinals at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
