The fifth player in the world celebrated 4:2

Darko Jorgić failed to qualify for the quarterfinals of the World Table Tennis Championship in Durban. In the round of 16, he was eliminated 4:2 in straight sets by the world’s fifth player, the Chinese Liang Jinkun.

The best Slovenian table tennis player, ranked 12th in the world, had his chances, but Liang was more composed in the key moments. The sets ended 12:10, 11:5, 9:11, 11:6, 7:11 and 11:7.

The 24-year-old Hrastničan, who beat Liang 3:2 at the last international competition in Macau, opened the match well. He led with 8:4, but then lost four points in a row and fell short in the playoff itself.

The second set was dominated by the Chinese, who opened the set with four consecutive points. Hope for Jorgić faded after winning the third set. He led 6-4 in the fourth, but Liang won the next seven points to take a 3-1 lead. Jorgić returned the blow in the fifth set, which he won convincingly.

In the final set, the score was tied at 6-6 when Liang escaped to 10-6 and cashed in the second closing ball.
