Igo Swiatek also faces a big test

Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic will meet in the semifinals at Roland Garros. Both favorites for a second Grand Slam title this season are in the top half of the draw. The main tournament will start on Sunday.

The fight for the number one in world tennis will also be an added charm in Paris, as the leader Alcaraz and the third Djokovic are separated by 860 points. The Spaniard and the Serb reached the quarterfinals last year, Daniil Medvedev reached the round of 16.

Djokovic will try to take advantage of the absence of 14-time winner Rafael Nadal on the sands of Paris and get his hands on a record 23rd Grand Slam title. He currently shares the record with Nadal, who will miss Roland Garros for the first time in his career or since 2005 due to an injury.

Djokovic, who slipped to third place in the ATP rankings on Monday, will face Aleksandar Kovacevic from the USA in the first round. The 36-year-old Serb, who lifted the prestigious cup in Paris in 2016 and 2021, did not advance beyond the quarterfinals in the three clay tournaments he participated in this year. He didn’t impress in Monte Carlo, Banja Luka and Rome, but he is always the best on the big stage when he plays with three sets won.

Alcaraz and the winner of the last masters in Rome, Daniil Medvedev, will meet the players from the qualifiers in the opening match.

Igo Swiatek also faces a big testWorld No. 1 Iga Swiatek can meet Kazakhstan’s Jelena Ribakina, who shone in Rome, in the semifinals. On the way to the much-desired title defense, which no player has been able to do in the last 16 years, the Polish woman will have to face the Czech Barbora Krejčikova in the round of 16, who defeated the Polish woman in the last two matches.

Swiatek, who left the last tournament in Rome with a slight muscle injury, will face Spain’s Cristina Bucsa, 67th in the WTA rankings, in the first round. She can then play last year’s finalist Coco Gauff in the quarter-finals and last week’s winner Rome in the semi-finals.

Sabalenka already for the introduction with the excellent Ukrainian KostyukThe second player of the world, Arina Sabalenka, who won the first big four tournament of her career in Melbourne this year, will start the tournament against the Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk. In the remaining three Grand Slam tournaments, Sabalenka has already made it to at least the semifinals, but in Paris she has not made it further than the third round.

Tamara Zidanšek will chase the main tournament on FridaySlovenia does not yet have a representative in the main tournament. After the defeats of Kaja Juvan, Polona Hercog and Dalila Jakupovič, only Tamara Zidanšek is in the qualifications, who will meet the Spaniard Aliona Bolsova in the third round on Friday.
