Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton denied rumors of a move to Ferrari at the Monte Carlo race venue. He claimed that he is about to sign a new contract with Mercedes.
A few days ago, the world of Formula One was rocked by unverified information that Ferrari is said to have offered a large sum to the Briton to move from Mercedes to the team from Maranello. Most called it speculation, and the former world champion used the same word today.
“When you’re negotiating a contract there’s always speculation and unless I say so myself, that’s exactly what it is.,” Hamilton said.
He added that this time, for the first time in his career, he did not participate alone in the negotiations for a new contract with Mercedes and team director Tot Wolff. “I have a great team working for me in this area. Away from the public eye, they work with Toto and we are about to sign a new contract,” Hamilton said. His current contract with the German team will expire at the end of the year.
Ferrai head Frederic Vasseur also denied the suggestions. “You know very well that this time of year is full of rumours. You will hear a different story every week. We are not offering a job to Lewis Hamilton and we have not sent him an offer. We haven’t spoken, but I believe every team in the caravan would be happy to have Lewis in their ranks.”
