Former head coach of the Slovenian men’s national basketball team, Igor Kokoškov, will take over the role of assistant head coach of the Atlanta Hawks team, Quin Snyder.
News of Atlanta’s interest in Kokoškov was first reported two weeks ago by TV’s Zach Klein WSB in Atlanta, Adrian Wojnarowskiciting sources at ESPN, then announced the news of the signed contract.
Snyder first worked with the Serbian expert in the 1999/2000 season, when Kokoškov was his assistant at the University of Missouri. Later, they also worked together in Utah for three years, where they forged a great relationship that they both talked about often.
“It’s hard to describe our relationship. It goes beyond basketball. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here today. He brought me to the US and gave me a job. He’s my life mentor, not just basketball. He changed my life,” Kokoškov once said about Snyder.
According to Team Utah Jazzwhere he was in the seasons from 2015 to 2018, is a former coach Fenerbahce briefly managed the Phoenix team Sons as the head coach, and then was an assistant at Sacramento Kings, before he tried his hand at the Euroleague with the Turkish club. He returned to the United States in 2021 and joined Jason Kidd in Dallas.
Igor Kokoškov led Georgia between 2008 and 2015, Slovenia between 2016 and 2017, and Serbia between 2019 and 2021.
