Tamara Zidanšek eliminated compatriot Pia Lovrič 6:0, 6:0 in the round of 16 of the WTA 125 tournament in Ljubljana. The match lasted 65 minutes.
After a few bad points, the 25-year-old Zidanšek quickly took the initiative and took the lead with 3:0 by taking away the serve. Despite some struggles, she continued to dominate and won the first set without dropping a game.
She also started well in the second set and took the compatriot’s serve again in the second game. The 21-year-old Lovrič (509th WTA) could not find a weapon with which to threaten the winner of the recent tournament in Bari and remained without a game against the 87th ranked player in the world.
“Maybe it was 6-0, 6-0 today, but it wasn’t ‘6-0, 6-0’. There were long points… I try to focus on myself and do what I think will bring me success in each point,” said Zidanšek, who recently found true feelings.
“It’s not that I didn’t enjoy it before, but it’s easier for me now. I’m finally confident that I go on the field and know that I’ve worked hard, trained the things I need to, and that I’m going to pull it off. No match is easy, today 6:0, 6:0, but they were long games and you have to be collected all the time and do what that result brings you,” added Konjičanka, who works with Blaž Kavčič.
Due to the worse weather forecast, the organizers will try to play today’s matches entirely in Tivoli, after the ground on Trg republike does not yet allow playing in variable weather conditions with only two matches played on Wednesday.
Kaja Juvan started the match against Romanian Marina Bulgaru according to the schedule, but a storm intervened. Juvan trailed 3:6, 0:1 at the break with the break of the Romanian at the beginning of the second set.
The 22-year-old woman from Ljubljana lost the opening shot in the fifth game of the opening set and continued with an unconvincing game. After the second break of serve, Bulgaru won the opening set 6:3. In the second, the Romanian immediately took the serve of the Slovenian two years younger and took the lead. With the stoppage due to heavy rain, however, the Romanian had the advantage on her opening shot in the second game.
