Remco Evenepoel won the last mountain stage of the Tour of Spain and also secured the shirt for the best hillclimber. Sepp Kuss and Primož Roglič overtook Jonas Vingegaard by nine seconds in the last meters.

For the Belgian, who attacked 29 km from the finish on the first crossing of the Puerto de la Cruz de Linares climb, it was the jubilee 50th victory of his professional career and the third of this year’s Vuelta. He was the best in the third and 14th stages.

The triathlon of the members of Jumba Visma was not until the last meters. American Kuss and Roglič accelerated, while two-time Tour winner Vingegaard was nine seconds behind.

Kuss is 17 seconds ahead of Vingegaard in the overall standings, Roglič is still a minute and eight seconds behind in third place.

The cyclists had to overcome five categorized climbs, three of which were the first category. Among them is the 8.3 km long final climb to Puerto de la Cruz de Linares with an average gradient of 8.6%.

On Friday, there is a flat stage. The final winner will be determined by Saturday’s eventful stage with ten categorized climbs of the third category. On Sunday, it’s time for the parade of champions to Madrid.
