The Slovenian national team in futsal started the qualification for the world championship with a defeat. In Eboli, it was beaten 3:1 (0:0) by Italy. Matej Fideršek scored for Slovenia.
They scored the goals for the hosts Alex Merlim in the 33rd and 36th minutes and Christopher Cutrupi, which was accurate just seconds before Merlim’s second goal. He mitigated the defeat in the 38th minute Matej Fideršek.
The Slovenians traveled with optimism to visit one of the strongest European national teams and thus took their place on the pitch. They had their chances, goalkeeper Nejc Berzelak also made excellent saves a few times.
After three quarters of the match it was 0:0, and then the hosts, who were also saved by the moody goalkeeper, had an opening.
In the first qualifying window, the Slovenian team will face the Czech Republic in Maribor on Tuesday at 18:45. Slovenia will face Spain in Group D. Each national team thus awaits six matches.
The winners of the groups (there are five in Europe) qualify directly for the World Cup. The four best second-placed national teams qualify for the additional qualifications, which will take place between April 8 and 17, 2024. The winners of the two pairs will travel to the World Cup.
