Inter’s attacking performance allowed them to defeat Milan 5-1 in the derby in the Lombardy capital, taking three points and taking the sole lead in Serie A.
Inter have a total of 12 points from four games, two more than Juventus, who beat Lazio 3-1 in the first leg on Saturday to become interim leaders.
Armenian midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan took the lead in the 5th minute of the derby, converting a cross from Federico Dimarco (5th minute).
The second goal came just before half-time and was scored by Frenchman Marcus Thuram (38), one of Inter’s new players this season.
In heavy rain at the San Siro, Milan scored a goal in the second half in a downpour. Mkhitaryan scored in the 69th minute, Turkey’s Hakan Calhanoglu scored from the penalty spot in the 70th minute, and Davide Frattesi sealed the victory by a narrow margin (90+3).
Milan were never in a position to compete with their great rivals, who had already won five consecutive derbies (counting all competitions), and were honored with a goal from Portuguese Rafael Leao, 57. It was all I could do to protect it.
