Handball players from Gorenje won the derby of the second round of the national championship with 24:22 in Trebnje pri Trim. It slipped again for Celje, who only got a point away from Sviš.
The match in a full hall in Trebnje, which was dominated by the defense and, of course, also by the moody goalkeepers, was evenly matched throughout. The home team never led by more than one goal, and the visitors never led by more than two.
Decisive moments happened quickly when the score was 16:16. At that time, they had more home players on the field, but their lead was prevented by goalkeeper Emir Taletović. On the other side, Urban Pipp scored a goal from the seven-meter penalty, and a few moments later Goti Maričić punished an ineffective attack on Uroš Zorman’s proteges.
Until the end, the home team steadily approached the goal of the deficit, but they did not manage to equalize. Mainly because of Petr Šišek, who mercilessly shook the home team’s net. In the last five minutes, he scored as many as five goals, eight in total. Miloš Dragaš contributed so many for the home side.
“The whole team left their hearts on the field, we fought the whole match and at the end we deservedly celebrated. But we have to stay realistic, because the championship has just started and we still have a lot of work to do,” said Šiško.
Simon Vidmar, the hero in Stična
The national champions from Celje, after the opening home defeat against Trebanjce, were left without a full trophy in Stična as well.
In an even match, Celjanov’s victory appeared in the last minute after Mitja Janc led his teammates to the lead with 33:32, but the combative team of home coach Aleksander Polak carried out an effective action in the dying breaths of the match. The hero of the match was the scorer of the equalizing goal, Simon Vidmar.
Together with Benjamin Cirar, he scored seven goals, while Tim Cokan was the most effective in the visiting team with nine goals.
