The official start of Cedevita Olimpija’s season in the Super Cup of the ABA League is not going as expected. In the play-off from 5th to 8th place, the people of Ljubljana led only 3:0 against Mega and in the end experienced a one-sided defeat with 72:86.
In the first two matches in Podgorica, Olimpija led only once, when they took a 3-0 lead after a three-pointer at the beginning of the match against Mega Jake Blažiča. The dragons evened the score at 5:5 and 7:7, but then the people of Belgrade more or less controlled the game and the outcome.
The orange basketball players got the closest in the last minutes of the 2nd quarter (37:39), but there was no longer any doubt about the outcome. At the beginning of the last quarter, Mega already led by +20. Mega is in the wings Nikola Topić (21 points) won by 14 points and will play for 5th place, while Cedevita Olimpija only faces a duel for 7th place.
In terms of shooting, Blažič was the most inspired of the Ljubljana team with 19 points, 17 of which were contributed by Gregor Glas and 15 by Sean Armand.
Without the first scorer from the first game
In the midday match in Podgorica, Cedevita Olimpija played without the first scorer from Monday’s match Karel Matković. The 22-year-old Croatian, who scored 21 points against Igokea, slipped awkwardly on the floor in the second half of Monday’s game. After the match, Matković felt a pain in his knee, as a result of which he went for an MRI scan instead of the match.
