The Slovenian women’s basketball team will play the qualifiers for the 2025 European Championship in Group B with Hungary, Bulgaria and Finland.
The winners of the eight groups and the four best second-placed national teams will qualify for the championship, which will be hosted by the Czech Republic, Germany, Greece and Italy.
Slovenia was placed in the third quality drum at the draw in Switzerland. The opening matches of the qualifiers await them in November this year in Hungary and at home with Bulgaria. The second term is in November 2024, and the last in February 2025.
The European Championship will take place from 18 to 29 June 2025, the final part will be in Athens. It will take place according to a different system than before; instead of repechages, the two best teams from the four groups will advance to the quarterfinals.
“The draw gave us an interesting group. Hungary is a very strong national team, as it proved at the last European Championship in Ljubljana. It works very well and is more dangerous every year. Compared to Bulgaria and Finland, we are a better national team and I believe that we should beat them. I hope that we will see the national team windows healthy and that we will gather in the strongest line-up every time. The goal is clear, the fifth consecutive qualification to the European Championship,” said the captain for the website of the Basketball Association of Slovenia Teja Oblak.
