NASA unexpectedly lost contact with the Orion capsule en route to the Moon in the early hours of November 23, for reasons under investigation.

After a successful seven-day mission to put Artemis I into lunar orbit, mission controllers lost contact with the spacecraft at 6:09 AM. Contact was restored after 47 minutes of silence.

“The reconstruction has been successfully performed several times in the last few days and the team is investigating the cause of the signal loss.” A NASA official wrote in a brief mission status update.

The team fixed the problem with a ground-side reconfiguration. Engineers are examining event data to determine what happened, and command and data officers download data recorded on Orion during the outage for inclusion in their assessments. There was no effect on Orion and the spacecraft “Stay in a healthy configuration.”

On the eighth day of the mission, Orion continued to move away from the moon, preparing to enter a distant retrograde orbit.the trajectory is “far” higher than the surface of the moon, “Retrograde” Orion is because the Moon orbits the Moon in the opposite direction it orbits the Earth.
