The Joint Command of the Peruvian Armed Forces and National Police issued a statement on Wednesday after President Pedro Castillo announced the dissolution of Congress and established an emergency government.
In the document they state: Article 134 of the Political Constitution stipulates that the President of the Republic has the power to dissolve Parliament if it denounces or denies trust in his two Cabinets.
In light of this, they argue that “acts contrary to the established constitutional order constitute violations of the constitution, Causes violations by the Peruvian military and national police. ” .
Similarly, “citizens are urged to keep their cool and trust the legally established institutions of the state.”
“United, resolute, with dignity and always!” the statement concluded.
At least five Castillo ministers resigned immediately after the dissolution of parliament was announced.
