The government, through Labor Minister Giorgio Boccardo, has stressed that companies that cause problems for fire department volunteer workers will be fined.
“I would like to clarify that the Labor Code guarantees firefighters the right to leave their workplace in an emergency. There is no time limit.
He stressed that volunteers should not give back their working hours or have their wages affected.
Boccardo did not hesitate to point out that companies demanding that firefighters return to work will be fined.
He also said the Department of Labor (DT) will monitor the above and ensure that the workers’ rights of employees of similarly affected companies are protected.
