Portuguese police renew search for Madeleine McCann

Portuguese police have announced that they are renewing the search for Madeleine McCann, the British girl who disappeared as a three-year-old in 2007. The case involves a 45-year-old German national.



The search operation is starting in in the southern region of the Algarve, about 50 kilometers inland from the resort, in in which three-year-old Madeleine disappeared from the apartment while on vacation with her family.

Police closed off the area around the dam on the river Arad. According to Portuguese media, the authorities searched the area as early as 2008, but at that time only animal remains were found.

The new search is being launched at the request of German authorities, who last year identified German citizen Christian B. like the official suspect in the case of Madeleine’s disappearance. He is suspected of murder, but has not yet been charged.
