Australian authorities confirmed Wednesday that Claire Nowland, a 95-year-old woman, has died a week after being tased by police during an altercation.
Security forces, who filed a complaint against those involved, said the woman died at Cooma Hospital, where she was admitted, according to information provided by the Sydney Morning Herald.
Agent Christian White was therefore charged with negligence for using the gun in question to cause significant damage. A woman with dementia was carrying a knife at the time of the incident, and she fell to the ground and hit her head.
The New South Wales Police said in a statement that the elderly woman had died “surrounded by her loved ones” around 7pm local time. “Our prayers and condolences go out to those lucky enough to have known, loved and been loved by Noland during his lifetime,” it read.
“We will continue to provide support as the bereaved families mourn the loss and ask that their privacy be respected at this time,” he said.
