On the South Korean Asiana Airlines plane, a passenger opened the emergency exit while preparing to land at Daegu Airport. The plane landed safely, but several passengers required medical attention.
The Airbus A321-200 was carrying 194 passengers on its domestic flight between Jeju Island and Daegu. The incident happened near the runway at Daegu International Airport, about 240 kilometers southeast of Seoul.
When the plane was about 200 meters above the ground, a passenger sitting near the emergency exit “manually opened the door by moving the handle”, said a representative of the South Korean carrier. Footage of the incident shows gusts of wind blowing through open doors, seatbacks shaking and people screaming in terror.

According to the BBC, the flight attendants were unable to stop the man because they were already preparing to land. According to witnesses, the man tried to jump through the door. The door remained open until landing.
Due to the unexpected opening of the door, some passengers had breathing problems, some fainted, and some people were taken to hospital after landing, but there were no major injuries or damage, the airline added. Nine people were hospitalized.
Asiana Airlines said police had launched an investigation into the incident, and South Korean authorities arrested the man upon landing. They added that he explained to them why he did it. He was not under the influence of alcohol or other substances at the time of the incident.
