None of the students are in mortal danger.
High school graduates in Labin were celebrating the end of their high school education on a tractor trailer that overturned on the road between Labin and Prtlog just before 11:00.
Several emergency medical teams arrived at the scene of the accident. The students were treated and 14 of them were transported to the Pula General Hospital.
The director of the Pula hospital Irena Hrstić explained to the Croatian web portal index.hr that three students were seriously injured. “Two will undergo surgery, one for a fracture, but their condition is stable and they are not in danger. Neither child has a head injury,” she explained.
According to the web portal of the newspaper Glas Istre, two injured high school graduates were taken to the Rijeka clinical center.
President of the Istrian County Boris Miletić announced that a great tragedy had been avoided. “The line between fun and tragedy is thin, so caution is never superfluous,” he added, according to the Croatian news agency Hina.
Commander of the fire department in Labin Saša Stepančić explained to the portal of the Croatian television N1 that the tractor, on which there were 14 people, went off the road. He added that the reason for the accident, according to unofficial information, was overheating of the brakes, which therefore failed, and the vehicle landed 20 meters deep in a ravine.
