Emma Coronel was sentenced to three years in prison in the United States.
Emma Coronel Aispuro, wife of Mexican drug trafficker Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán, was released from a US federal prison on Wednesday after serving almost two years for drug trafficking and money laundering.
This was confirmed to the media by the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP), which noted that it would not provide any further information about Coronel “for security reasons, as with those not already in custody.” . . ”
Jeffrey Lichtman, the convicted woman’s lawyer, already announced in February 2022 that he would be taking advantage of BOP benefits given to convicts who comply with 85 percent of their sentences, and that his client will be eligible to receive a refund in September of this year. It was announced that he could be released.
However, Lichtman had already stressed at the time that the new conditions did not mean a reduction in sentence in any case. Colonel Aispuro was sentenced by a US court in November 2021 to three years in prison for various crimes.
The verdict found Colonel Aispuro guilty of conspiracy to distribute and import illegal substances into the United States, money laundering, and participating in her husband’s illegal business.
